The Village of Samoëns

An old village with imposing stone buildings, made by the famous Samoëns Stone-cutters, Samoëns is known as “A centre of Art and History”. To learn a little more about this we recommend that you follow a guided tour of the village or read the book “ The art of the builders from the Giffre area” or “The church of Notre Dame de L’Assomption”

In Winter

Samoëns is a village with the label of “Art and History centre”. It’s a resort for skiing and hiking, a magnificent region at one hour from Geneva, Chamonix and Annecy.

The Samoëns resort is part of the Grand Massif ski domain (270 kms of tracks and 80 ski lifts) one of the most beautiful in Europe. Nearby there are cross- country ski tracks for those who enjoy linking a sport to the discovery of the countryside. In the village which can easily be reached on foot, are to be found all sorts of shops and facilities and the atmosphere is authentic and welcoming. There are varied activities for a happy holiday.

With its title ‘For the little mountain lovers’. Samoëns has everything for children (a creche, a kindergarden, and all sort of activities) so that the adults can relax and enjoy their pleasures unencumbered.

Samoëns is a village resort of Haute-Savoie, at an altitude of 720 metres. From this agreeable altitude the ski tracks are directly accessible thanks to the new 8 place lift which takes you directly to 1600 metres from where you can access the totality of the Grand Massif ski domain with it’s highest point at 2500 metres

In Summer

The mountain is accessible to everyone : there’s a leisure park at the Lac aux dames, all levels of hiking, rock climbing, rafting, paragliding…or simply meeting up with the people of Samoëns who will share their love of the region with you.
The upper Giffre mountain ranges are unique in that they are the only pre-Alpe ranges to have glaciers. Hanging above the cliffs of the Fer a Cheval amphitheatre, the icy slopes lead to very isolated summits.

The scenery surrounding the lakes, rivers and flat valleys will be a very agreeable discovery. There are activities for everyone and for all tastes :
from challenging hikes to romantic strolls. Samoëns is serene and welcoming.

You won’t be able to resist the lure of the numerous high mountain lakes, the Giffre river which flows along the valley, the 9200 hectares of the Sixt nature reserve, the impressive amphitheatre of the Fer a Cheval which has been labelled as one of France’s great sites, as is also the Rouget waterfall known as the Quees of the Alps etc….
